James Horner

Known for his integration of choral and electronic elements, and the use of motifs associated with celtic music, the two time Academy Award-winning James Horner made an influential contribution in the movie industry and left a rich legacy to the sound of cinema. Studying piano at the age of five, the musical path for James Horner was laid out from a very young age. After studying at the Royal College of Music in London where he was mentored by György Ligeti, Horner earned a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in composition and theory. He went on to obtain a PhD in the same field and began scoring student films for the American Film Institute in the late 1970s, paving the way for scoring larger-scale films as well. His work on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan would lead to numerous offers and opportunities to collaborate with world-class performers and blockbuster directors. Ever since, James Horner has been nominated for 7 Academy Awards and won two Oscars for scoring Titanic and composing the song “My Heart Will Go On” performed by Céline Dion. His other notable work include the score for Alien, Glory, Legends of the Fall, Braveheart, Jumanji, Troy, The Amazing Spider-Man and the #1 highest box-office grossing movie of all-time Avatar.
