DESCRIPTION

Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars: The Motion Picture captures one of the most legendary moments in rock history: David Bowie’s final performance as his iconic Ziggy Stardust alter ego. Filmed on July 3, 1973, at London’s Hammersmith Odeon by acclaimed director D.A. Pennebaker, the concert documentary preserves the historic farewell that stunned both the audience and Bowie’s own band when he announced the retirement of Ziggy Stardust.

Released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the concert, this remastered soundtrack presents the show in stunning audio quality. Long-time Bowie collaborator Tony Visconti newly mixed the recordings and restored performances that were absent from previous editions. Highlights include the reinstated “The Jean Genie/Love Me Do” medley and “Round And Round,” featuring legendary guitarist Jeff Beck, the latter making its first-ever appearance on an official release.

The concert showcases many of Bowie’s defining songs, culminating in the emotional final encore, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide,” preceded by the now-famous speech that marked the end of Ziggy Stardust. Captured both onstage and behind the scenes, the film and soundtrack document a pivotal moment that changed the course of rock music and cemented Bowie’s status as one of popular music’s greatest innovators.

This standard edition is pressed on classic black vinyl and comes housed in a gatefold sleeve, replacing the original tri-fold packaging. Combining historic performances with newly restored audio, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars: The Motion Picture is an essential release for David Bowie fans and collectors of classic rock history.

Common Questions

What does 'pre-order' mean?

A pre-order product is a product which still needs to be produced. So, after your purchase, you won’t receive this product immediately. We strive to send these on the Release Date which you can find on the product page.

Keep in consideration that manufacturing processes can always turn out to be delayed so this Release Date, acts as a guideline.

I ordered a pre-order and an in-stock item. When will they ship?

If you place an order containing both pre-order and in-stock items, your entire order will be shipped on the latest pre-order date of any pre-ordered items. If you prefer not to wait, please place separate orders.

Pre-order items have an (expected) release date noted on the product page. We typically ship these items several days before their release date to ensure that you receive the record on—or as close as possible to—the release date.
